Paper is much more friendly to the environment than 100’s of cloth bags made of polystyrene or some oil synthetic material. I now have over 100 bag that are going to the land fill and it will take 100 years to disintegrate or longer.

Businesses are charging for paper bags as well. Fifteen cents time 100 customers $15.00 per hour. That is a money grab. Also paper is biodegradable.

The cloth reusable bags should be purchased as the consumer desires, not needing the cashier to offer it to them. It is another item that is part of their shopping. There used to be all sorts of reusable bags hung out, but now they are a bit scarce.

A paper bag should be paid for as it is not REALLY reusable. Most of the time the handle breaks, or the bag tears. At least it is recyclable!

When I bring my pile of grocery bags to the grocery store it would be nice to be rewarded! Five cents a bag perhaps?

If the city was producing the bags, they should be paid for them, but that is not the case. The stores must order them in from an outside source – they pay for them. Stores should set the price, not city hall.

By the way, paper straws are a terrible idea. The compostable straws are way better.
