Bring Back The City Of Champions
You might have heard there's a sporting event tonight.
No big deal, right?
But, no matter the result, we have a suggestion.
We think it's time to make Edmonton the "City of Champions" again.
The slogan was officially added to City signs in 1988 when the Oilers and Eskimos were winning everything.
But the slogan was always about more than just hockey and football.
Heck, it was about more than sport.
It was about ambition and excellence.
Something that's sorely missing at City Hall nowadays.
When the Council voted to remove the slogan in 2015, then-Mayor Don Iveson perfectly summarized the decline.
He said: "We are in the post-tagline era”.
But it wasn't a tagline.
It was an idea, a mindset, a way of living life, and of doing business.
And, frankly, it's an attitude we need to bring back.
So, regardless of what happens tonight, we think it's time for Edmonton to be the City of Champions again.
If you agree, please sign the petition to ask City Hall to restore the City of Champions slogan.
Then share the petition with your friends, family, co-workers, and every Edmontonian, so they can make their voices heard, too.
