What is the job of a municipal government?

Many Edmontonians are asking this very question.

Recent debacles with electric buses, bike lanes, and Councillor raises put core services into the spotlight.

People are questioning just what the City is doing with our tax dollars.

Despite rising property taxes, complaints about services like snow removal, pothole repairs, basic maintenance, and infrastructure persist.

Clearly, there is an urgent need for a shift in priorities at City Hall.

Since the inception of Common Sense Edmonton, we’ve been screaming from the rooftops for a return to prioritizing core services.

It's time for City Hall to listen.

Edmontonians deserve reliable, efficient, and uninterrupted access to essential services that support their daily lives.

Prioritizing the maintenance and improvement of core infrastructure and services, such as water, sanitation, and roads, is the essential job of City Hall.

In fact, it should be the only job of City Hall.

Core services form the backbone of a functional and thriving city.

We must end non-essential projects that don’t directly benefit the majority of residents.

Our resources should be allocated where they are needed most, ensuring every dollar spent makes a real difference in our community.

Residents deserve to know their taxes are being used effectively and responsibly, with a clear focus on only the necessities.

No more chaos.

No more pet projects.

No more misplaced priorities.

It’s time for City Hall to get back to basics.

City council needs to stop spending on needless items like bike lanes, etc, to stay within budget. The role of any city to budget appropriately and spend within it period. If they can not complete those two simple things… council should resign..

Always see 12 to 16 staff in vizi vests at construction sites…with only 4 to 6 of them actually busy working!!! Likely the number of actual staff needed to get the job done! The remaining staff are on the tax payers dime getting paid to stand around, shovel or phone in hand,…LOOKING Busy!!! But not doing any kind of REAL WORK!!!

Back to basics. Why do we have double sidewalks and jutting out corner sidewalks that will be difficult to clear in the winter and cause road hazard for vehicals in the winter. Also shortens the space for cars to maneuver in accidents and lessens parking area creating greater likelihood of accidents for passing vehicals etc. especially in the winter if roadways and side roads are not cleared.
